1. Cold

Happy 2010 to everyone!  Well, it was too cold to go out for a photowalk this morning, so instead I went for a photodrive and came up with this…..not only is there over 17″ of snow surrounding this structure, just the stark appearence of the abandoned structure made it look COLD!

Camera: Canon XSI, Lens: 55-250mm, Focal length: 70mm, Shot in Aperture Priority mode, Aperture F/10, Shutter Speed 1/400, ISO 200
Processed using PSE8 & lightroom2.6, levels adj, changed to black and white in lightroom2.6 (used a preset), applied topaz adjust protrait drama, lowered opacity a bit

  1. Wow, Tammy this is a great image. Love the black and white, it does look cold and desolate.
    Happy New Year!

  2. Congrats on your first posting of the New Year! Great shot and love the treatment!

  3. Happy New Year Tammy

What a great image to start with. Hopefully you got far enough to replenish the WT. LOL

  4. Happy New Year, Tammy! Photodrive works for me…I love the contrasting textures here: the battered wood of the building against the soft caress of the snow.

  5. Manotone really enhances the starkness, don’t know how I will post for this one, I am sweating with the heat already and it is only 10 past 5 in the morning.

    • You are off to a good start…already rubbing your heat in….this is going to be another interesting year! 🙂

  6. Wonderful! You were brave to get out and drive. Glad to be in your group! I’m still working on learning WordPress tho!

    • I’m happy you are in my group too! If you have any questions on WordPress, let me know and i will TRY to help! 🙂

  7. Cold is right! Terrific image to start the walk!

  8. Great shot Tammy, and love the B&W treatment. I always struggle with B&W for landscapes, never seem to get the contrast right.

  9. This is wonderful, if cold. Looks like a few more snows would collapse it. I like the idea of a photo drive!

  10. I love the black and white. It’s gorgeous.

  11. Hi Tammy –

Great first post of the year! It is very stark and very cold, you’ve captured the essence well.

    sheila

  12. Great image, Tammy. Love the black and white treatment. Come on down to Georgia. It’s cold, but we don’t have any snow.

    • I’m jumpin’ on a plane tomorrow Clara, you’re in trouble! 🙂 Right now wind chill is -24….ugh!!!

  13. Great start, Tammy! I can feel the cold coming from my screen!

  14. You nailed it! This says ‘cold” in more ways than just the temperature. B&W really brings across that cold, inhospitable feeling.

  15. Great shot Tammy, I also really like the black and white. Did you do anything special to it? Did you take it in B/w or remove the color?

    • Thanks Terri, I took it in color and processed it in lightroom but don’t ask what I did, I just moved sliders until I liked it..LOL

  16. Where is there info on the Virtual Photo Walk? I’ll check it out. I think you asked about my Lensbaby? I like it. I have the Muse though and want to upgrade to the composer I think. The Muse is limited in what it does.

  17. Very nice shot! It makes me chilly just looking at it. I do photo drives, as well! Although, I like it much better when someone drives me around and I can just snap away.

  18. Great shot, Tammy! Happy New Year! Love the b/w. This really does look cooooold! Nice job.

  19. Great start Tammy, what a delightful old structure to have to photograph.

We’re sure in the same weather zone – we’re -33 today but I stayed inside!

  20. Well that’s what COld looks like 🙂
I think I will try to work a bit more with my photos this year, B&W is great in many ways

  21. Wonderfully stark shot, Tammy! I like the clean contrasts.

  22. Wonderful photo! I like this one in BW!
    Happy New Year!!

  23. Truly an image of COLD!

  24. Gorgeous shot, Tammy, looks soooo cold!

  25. I love the old, aged building and the processing – they really work! Nice placement with the snow so bold in the foreground too.

  26. Tammy, I love this picture! I’m new to the group so I don’t know protocols… but am wondering if you shot it in black and white or if you shot it in color but changed it to black and white in the editing process. It really works outstandingly well. I agree with the one of the comments here that it works on several levels of the word COLD.

  27. Lovely Image Tammy. I adore old barns…can I come and take this beauty home? I would take such good care of it!

Geez…look at all your photo info…and your editing info…where do i start? LOL
