122. Independence

On the 4th of July we visited the “America’s 20th Century Veterans’ Memorial” in North Platte, NE.  The Memorial gave us a reminder of all of the Nebraska men and women who served our Country before and during the twentieth century and those who serve now to protect our independence and freedom.    The Memorial was an amazing tribute to our heroes and was a wonderful learning experience to my three year old nephew…

  1. You’re the artist for posting this wonderful tribute, but alas your nephew is the STAR! He gives the shot so much meaning! Wonderful!

  2. I agree; adding your nephew to the photo — with him looking at he the memorial versus at the camera — really adds to this image.

  3. I love your nephew’s stance as he’s looking up at the memorial – I have to (oh this pains me) agree with Ron and say that he’s right, your nephew is the star.

  4. Having a respectful onlooker in the shot gives the memorial context and emotion that would be lacking otherwise. good job, Tammy!

  5. Hi Tammy,
That’s a very nicely done piece of work. Great picture for the theme. Have a great day!

  6. Your nephew really makes this shot so poignant. Beautifully done!

  7. He does make this shot meaningful! Great pic!

  8. Great image and very well-speaking.

  9. There’s something very touching about your young nephew looking “up” to the hero’s who served for the good of everyone. A very meaningful capture Tammy, I’d send your nephew a print to keep.

Did you do something extra with post-processing, like the effect I see in your nephew’s hair but maybe it’s just simple contrast. The texture and tones, and your nephews blond hair… just a wonderful image!

    • Thanks Pat…yes I did some post processing on this…I adjusted levels then made a copy…on the copy I used topaz adjust – spicify(50% opacity) and then erased away the effect on Logan’s hair and skin. I liked the color and texture the effect brought out in the wall.

  10. I can’t think of more to add to what has been said- a really moving image!

  11. Nice capture!

  12. That is a very moving image!! I love the way you captured it. Your nephew seems to be really entranced. What a beautiful legacy for our men and women who gave all for our country!

  13. Sounds like a great way to spend the 4th and I’m glad the little guy is getting the right message. 🙂

  14. What an evocative shot! Emotional and thoughtful.

  15. I like the inclusion of a young child. It emphasizes the fact that we need to teach our children about the sacrifices of these people.

  16. Stunning image and so good for the theme. We don’t really have any such celebrations in Sweden. Not having been fully involved in wars for so long. I like the relief of the memorial and your nephew gives it perspective. Nice work.
